Review: Out Of Line by Jen McLaughlin, Diane Alberts

I read this several days ago, and I'm ashamed to admit that I'm only just getting around to reviewing it.

See, this is why I shouldn't have to live without Mrs Internet for more than a day. I get behind. Also, Mr Blogger needs to decide to play nice like, all the time. Re-writing reviews is not all that fun guys. Seriously. I know, I only have myself to blame for not being smart enough to back shit up. What can I say? I depend on things actually working way more than I should.

Now, originally, I gave this  4 star. Now I've had some serious time to reflect on it, this baby got boosted up to a 4.5. I love it when this happens. **Happy sigh**.

I suppose in some ways, it is pretty predictable, but you know what? I like that, especially with these sorta reads. There's a time for some suspense and angst and all that jazz, and then, there's a time where you need to know the basics of the story. You need something predictable. It's safe and cushy. This is why it got boosted. Looking back, it was precisely what I needed. There's only so much my heart can take. And at that time, it needed a break. :)

Carrie Wallington has never known what real freedom is. Looking on from the outside, she seems to have it all. Nice clothes, loving family, pretty much anything a young woman could want, right? Nuh uh. Wrong! 
She's always lived under her fathers thumb. She does as she's told, never steps out of line. And then...College. Now you know what college is about in books. Sex, frat parties, taking way too much advantage of having no parents around. But you see, our Carrie doesn't even get that. Daddy dearest hired a security guard to make sure his little girl behaves how he wants her to. Wouldn't wanna ruin Daddy's reputation now, would we?

Enter Finn Coram. Hot as hell surfer dude/Marine, he's every girls wet dream. Oh yeah, I said it, you read it right. He's funny, he actually likes Carrie for Carrie, not for who her family is. It's sweet. But, BUT!! All is not as it seems!

MmHm, you guessed it. He's the person her Dad hired. I know what you're thinking, I know, seriously. I thought the same thing. How in the hell does he get away with this shit? 
Oh he does, for a while Everything is going great. Really, Carrie is blossoming into a confident young woman, and she really, truly realises just how protective her dad is. Isn't it amazing how much we learn once we have the chance to reflect?

Anyway! It's a pretty darn beautiful relationship between the two. At first, they walk a fine line between being friends and being..more. And then it's all good. **Hurrah!** 

But then..she finds out the truth. See, this hurt me. Like, really hurt. I was a mess. I didn't want them to break up. I wanted them to say a big ass fuck you to her dad and run away, get married and have lots ans lots of cute little surfer babies, buy a house with a white fence and grow old and wrinkly together. But no. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Not in that way anyways. **a girl can dream**.

In the end? They stick together. Awesomeness! But Dum dum dumm! Mr Marine has to go away. And end! I think I had a little tantrum. *Sorry Mr Kindle*. 

I still haven't read book two. Damn. I think that's gonna have to be my Sunday read. For sure. I need to know what happens! Hehe!

As I said at the start, it's not a 4 star any more, it's a 4.5!

Review: Rule by Jay Crownover

Another Tattooed man whore who's misunderstood? Sign me up! 

I was going through a sorta college romance phase. Maybe I was having withdrawal issues, you know, cause of the whole Beautiful Disaster thing? I needed a Travis fix STAT. Well, obviously I didn't get it, cause no one can replace Mr Maddox. But, I did get pretty darn close with Rule. I said it ladies, he's up there with Trav. **Sighs**

It was love at first curse. Hehe.

You know when you browse through Amazon/Goodreads, and add a pretty silly amount of books to your TBR list? Yeah, That's what I did with this. I even pre-ordered it. Totally forgot about it too. And then I woke up, and Mr Kindle had a present for me. I was confused, see, I really did forget I ordered it. I had to research it. And I knew, I knew I was gonna love this guy. Oh, and how right I was.

Rule is a man whore. He doesn't deny it. He isn't even ashamed. He's also not really bothered about Shaw turning up at his apartment, seeing him naked (with another girl in his bed, also naked). It's all part of their routine. He gets drunk, gets laid and passes out. She studies, wakes his hungover ass up and drives him home every Sunday. See, routine is important!

What's the problem? Is he secretly in love with her, and trying to forget about her by sleeping with every female within a five mile radius? Nah. Shaw loves Rule. 

“I think it’s genetically impossible not to be kind of in love with him when you come equipped with a vagina. It’s just something about all that angsty, moody swagger he has that makes you want to cuddle him up and make him feel better.” 

Oh, but it gets even more complicated. Rule has always believed Shaw was dating his now dead twin brother. The whole family did. And then..

He takes her virginity. When they're drunk. See where this is going? Ah yes, good.

He wants Shaw, he gives her his heart.

“Here’s my heart Shaw. You have it in your hands and I promise you’re the first and last person to ever touch it. You need to be careful with it because it’s far more fragile than I ever thought and if you try and give it back I’m not taking it. I don’t know enough about love to know for sure that’s what this between us is, but I know that for me it’s you and only you from here on out and I can only promise to be careful and not push you away again. Life without you in it is doable, but if I have a choice I want to do it with you by my side and I’m telling you I’m not running away from the work it takes to make that happen. Shaw I’m not scared of us anymore.” 

  How freaking sweet was that scene guys? 

And the family..
Well, when the truth comes out, everyone turns their backs on Shaw. The only real family she has ever known doesn't believe her. They don't want to know her.

And yes, hearts are broken. And yes, we feel every damn second of pain with them. It was a sweet torture though. Because you know, you just know that these two are meant for each other. So you sit, and read, hope and pray, that they get their shit sorted sooner rather than later and give you a really hot steamy sex scene. And then you hope for more.

You can't not fall for these guys. They're perfect. Okay, so they're not perfect, but as far as damaged tattooed guys go, Rule is perfect. HeHe.

Damn, I just love this book guys. I'm sure there were several mistakes and all that shit. I don't give a fuck. Nuh uh. If I didn't notice any, then they can't be that bad. I never got confused, I never had to re-read anything, I just went with it. For me, personally, I thought it flowed pretty darn well. I didn't (couldn't) put it down. I read it in one sitting. It was that good. I;m not saying you all have to agree. Hell, it would be awful if everyone agreed, then there wouldn't be anything better out there. But honestly, for those of you who have written really really negative reviews? Damn, they aren't reviews, they're targeted insults. If you can't find anything nice or helpful to say, don't say it! Sorry guys, I needed to get this in here today!

Anyway, 5 big fat gold stars for this baby :)

Review: The Sea Of Tranquility by Katja Millay

As far as stand alone books go, this one is up there. I didn't know 

what to expect, I was totally, utterly, 


completely unprepared to feel so much! I cried like a baby and 

laughed like a psycho. True story. It's all 

about anticipation with this baby. It's slow, it progresses so 

beautifully. One boy who has had to learn to 

manage his pain alone, one girl who has yet to deal with her own 

grief. 


They find peace in each other, and 

together learn to overcome their pain, letting go the hurt that has 

tainted their lives for so long. 

"I know at that moment what he's given me...the knowledge that I am 

accepted here... 

He's given me a place to belong."


Absolutely fantastic. As it progresses so slowly, there are no frantic feelings all fighting for the spotlight 

No confusion. When you felt something, damn you felt it. There are all the small feelings, the little pangs 

that are consistent throughout, but when we get to the big one? Oh boy, sucker punch! It hits hard and 

leaves you breathless. It owns you. There is no escaping it, it just is. Whilst it highlights some or the 

horrors of life, it still manages to flow effortlessly into a beautifully written ending that leaves you 

needing more.



Oh, I could write about this forever. Honestly, it is without a doubt one of the most powerful, 

heartbreakingly beautiful books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. 


Just perfect!

Review: Fallen Crest series by Tijan

This is gonna be one long ass page guys. You have been warned!


Fallen Crest High (#1)
I was constantly coming across this whilst browsing Amazon. Seriously, it was always there, and I always scrolled right passed it. Why? Because I thought it was going to be too YA for me. High school? Nuh uh. I didn't want to read that. I wanted something bad ass and gritty and full of sex. Heehee. It kept popping up so in the end, I got a sample. And then I one clicked for the whole thing ten minutes later. How wrong I was about this book! Yes, it's set in high school, so yes, there are some really freakin' immature characters. Background characters that is. The main three? Shit, I loved them! They. Are. Awesome.

Samantha, or Sam as she prefers to be called, receives the shock of her life. Her moms left her dad, and they're moving in with momma's new shiny rich boyfriend. A boyfriend who happens to have two sons. Two sons who rule the public school. Yup. They're rich and attend public. Sam? Not so much but she attends the Academy. It looked bad right from the start. We knew something was gonna happen.

Mason and Logan Kade answer to no one. Not one single person. They do what, and who, they like and when they like it. They don't give two shits about anyone else, not really. Until Sam comes along. At first, it seems the trio are going to avoid each other at all costs. Until Sams bitch of a mother turns on Sam. Mason intervenes, and it's decided. Sams theirs. And no one, but no one, fucks with anyone who belongs to them. That sound strange? Yeah, but it's the only way to describe how they are. Logan becomes the annoying step brother, and Mason? He becomes something else all together. I love this guys! heehee. 

Throw in a cheating ex boyfriend, two very ex best friends, a new one who lives through other people and a crazy ass mother, and TaaDaa, welcome to Sams life! Now it's not all light teenage drama. Nope. When I said her mom was crazy, I meant it. It's insane!

Seriously though? I highly recommend this series. Ignore the whole YA thing, because truthfully, you kinda forget that they're in high school. There's some deep shit here. It's a strong book! And yes, I'm sure there were several issues with some of the writing, but screw it. I didn't give a damn. It didn't have any negative affect on my perceptions of the book as a whole. So so happy I finally decided to read this!

Fallen Crest Family

If you thought the first one was great, this one is better. Yeah, totally possible. More Kade brothers? Sign me up! **Sighs** I can't get enough of these guys. I started to read this pretty much straight after finishing the first. I was hooked. All those problems with Sams mom in book 1? Well, shit's about to hit the fan again.

These guys just can't catch a break can they? That said, we still get 

everything we expect! Plenty of LOL 

moments :) so it's all good. 


It's safe to say, Sams mom is one super high Bitch.  More so in this book than the first. Yeah, I didn't think that was possible either. I have no words to describe this woman. She is just dreadful! It's no secret that there are certain people who disagree with Sam and Masons relationship. But who in their right mind blackmails their own freakin' daughter? Oh yeah, Sams momma. You heard (read?) right. See, techincally Mason should not be sleeping with Sam. So Analise drops that bomb. Oh yeah. Stop seeing lover boy or the police get a nice little phone call. 

I know a lot of people have had issues with how Sam is in this book. Sure, Sams a little, weaker, in this one, but come on guys! Who the hell wouldn't be a damn mess dealing with this shit? It's all good though. She pulls through! She puts The Bitch in her place eventually. **Insert cheerleader pom pom throwing here** 

This one feels deeper than the first. We get to see the honest to god fucked up side of dear old momma. We see how Sam deals with her biological father. MmHmm. It's not looking so good for our girl is it? But, fear not! It does work out! Sorta.

So how is this compared to the first? Different, sure. Any less entertaining? Oh hell no! I adored this one. More so than the first. By far.

Fallen Crest Public

BadAss Sam Is BACK people! **Happy Dance** That one scene, the table one? I Squeeeed like a mad woman. True story. I even did a happy wiggle. Okay! Back on track..

To say Sams first day at Public goes badly is a serious understatement. It's pretty damn clear that while some girls want to be her (hello, being Masons girl is a dream come true there), some just don't like her. And the rest? They want to destroy her. She's had Mason and Logan fighting for and with her since the beginning. Now? Now our girl has to put on some big girl panties and prove that she can take care of herself. Oh yeah! That's it!

Now, not everyone likes this idea. Nope. Mason wants to solve every problem for her, so does Logan. And one big ass problem she has is Kate. We haven't heard the last of her! Did she ever learn that the thing she had with Mason was just sex? Clearly not. That girl is whacked. She is insane! What she isn't, is prepared for Sam to fight back. And then..Sam isn't prepared for a four to one beating.

Mason, being Mason, decides enough is enough. And he's gonna ruin Kate once and for all. Oh man, I don't want to write much more about this cause you need to read and experience this shit for yourselves. Honestly, it is amazing! I hated hi for it, I really did. I shouted at Mr Kindle so much. But then? I forgave him. How could I not?

And that ending? I was like..Wait, what? Why do you do this to me Tijan, WHY?!?! I was heartbroken. No joke, I wanted to cry. Because I love Sam and Mason. And I love Logan too. I want my Logan to have his HEA. I want Sam and Mason to have theirs too. So, Cliffhanger? I guess so. Am I going to stalk Tijan's Facebook and Twitter for sneak peaks and info on release dates? You bet your ass I am. I'm not ashamed to say it. I will stalk the shit out of her pages until I get the fourth book.

I've said it before, YES they are set in high school, but they are NOT your average YA read. At all. And if you haven't read these beauties yet. Why? WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?

Review: Coming Home (Jackson Falls #) by Laurie Breton

I was there with the characters. The writing was so perfect, it was just easy. There was no "wait..what?" moments, I didn't have to flick back through to figure anything out. It progressed at a steady pace yet managed to be jam packed with drama. The detail was insane, it was an emotional book, yet I remained content throughout. That was important for me. I freakin loved it!


Set in 1974, Casey is just 18 when Danny comes crashing into her life along with Rob. Danny's the gorgeous, makes your heart (and panties) melt singer, Rob is the guitar superstar, the opposite of Danny. The trio soon rise to stardom when Danny's voice and Rob and Casey's songs become huge. They go from living in dumps to living how they've always dreamed of, like the stars they are. It's a whirlwind. It;s chaos. Danny and Casey marry, and soon realise that everything isn't quite as perfect as they first thought. 

Rob, being Casey's best friend, stands by the couple as they try to work out their issues. He supports Casey, giving her a shoulder to lean on when times are rough. It's sweet, you know he only wants to see her happy. That was really important for me. I can't handle love triangles. I hate seeing people hurt. 

Ah, but I did with this. When the trio is no more, Casey has to learn to pick herself up, and put herself back together again. Whilst doing so, she realises the choices she made at 18 are completely different to those at 30, and loving someone again is okay. 

**sighs**
I was all over the place with this one. I was a mess. I cried hard and long. I hated then I loved then hated again. It's one powerful read that will leave you amazed. The writing is strong, it hits you where it hurts most but manages to leave you with happy tears!

Insane! Epic. Without a doubt, one of my favourite reads!

Review: Rock Chick Revolution (#8) by Kristen Ashley

We started with Indy's story and we end with Ally's. And what a freakin' way to end it!

Ally has secrets. Yup. Secrets not even the Rock Chicks know. She's a Nightingale, so it makes sense that she wants to go into the, erm, family business. Not everyone agrees. Darius has her back, always has, always will. Lee and Hank don't like the thought of their little sister doing anything like they do. And neither does Ren. 

Ren Zano. You heard (read?) right. I'm getting ahead of myself here!

We get to see the events of the past year through Ally's eyes. A Rock Chick Rewind. Brilliant! I love how we get to see what she thought about the other Rock Chick dramas.

She loves Ren. And apparently, Ren loves Ava. Why does she think this? Oh, well it might have something to do with him muttering Ava's name while asleep. When he's next to Ally. Naked. Shit. 

Ally tries to keep things casual. No strings attached, steamy and sinful sex. Plain and simple. Ren has other ideas.

“How many times do I have to tell you? We’re fuck buddies, Zano.” 
He shook his head again, his thumb sweeping across my cheek and his face getting so close to mine, his lips nearly brushed my own. 
“No, baby , we are not. I’ve had fuck buddies, Ally. And not one of them looked like you look when I slide inside you, every fucking time I slide inside you. Like a piece of you has been lost and now it’s found.” 
Oh crap.
I probably looked just like that.”

Not only does Ally have to fight against Ren and his constant advances, persuasions to give more a try, she has to deal with a fall out with Indy, every Rock Chick and Hot Bunch guy making their opinions about her career choices known, she has to accept the fact that she's a Rock Chick, and she will get her happily ever after, and she's a Nightingale, through and through.


It was amazing to get inside Ally's head. She is insane! I got pissed with her several times, after all, how many times had she told the other girls to just go with it? And does she take her own advice? Nuh uh. Silly girl!

I was also cray happy with the detail we got in regards to the other characters. That moment when Ava calls off her weddigg? Priceless!

“Calm down, man, the wedding isn’t off,” Luke announced. 
“It is,” Ava retorted angrily, whirling on her man. 
“It isn’t,” Luke replied calmly, staring down his nose at his woman. 
“Are you going to dance with me?” she asked. 
“Vertically?” he asked back, and I pressed my lips together in order not to laugh. 
“Yes!” she snapped. 
“Yeah, baby,” he said. “I’ll dance with you vertically, in the bathroom on the plane on the way to Bermuda.” 

5+ teary eyed stars! I'm not ready to say goodbye to them yet! :'(

Review: Rock Chick Regret (#7) by Kristen Ashley

I was surprised when I read the blurb for this. I wasn't expecting Hector Chavez to have his own book. No idea why, I just didn't.

Now this installment? This one moved me. Big time. I thought Stella and Mace's story was emotional, shit, that was all sunshine and daisies compared to this! Seriously, I was a wreck. I didn't want to read it, Sadie's pain was almost too much for me. Sure, I expected something, I mean, it's a Rock Chick after all. I just didn't anticipate for it to be so darn emotional. It was deep. It was perfect!


Sadie is known as The Ice Princess, and she's made sure she's worked hard enough to maintain the reputation. It's expected, she's lived her whole life under her drug lord fathers thumb. It makes sense. Until it doesn't. Now it's bye bye daddy, hello freedom. Why? Because one night she decided enough was enough, and she showed Hector the real Sadie. And he likes what he saw, enough to know he wasn't gonna let her slip away.

When faced with the ultimate choice, continue to be The Ice Princess or let herself live a life surrounded by Rock Chicks and Hot Bunch guys, she chooses wisely. For a while. It's hard to let people in when she's always felt so alone. Eventually, everyone wears her down. Of course, not before all the famous Rock Chick drama occurs! And you know you're gonna laugh and laugh hard.

“Hector? You call him Hector?”
“Well, I can hardly call out, ‘Agent Chavez, oo Agent Chavez,’ When he makes me climax, now can I?” 

...


“I looked up at Lee when we stopped in front of Hector and informed him helpfully, “You might want to take your arm away. Blanca tells me Hector doesn’t like men touching me.” 
“Blanca told you that?” Lee asked, his smile (and arm) still firmly in place.
“Yes. She’s known Hector, like, his whole life so I think she’s in the position to know.” 
Lee nodded, his smile somehow bigger like he was trying not to laugh then his eyes moved to Hector and he said, “I tried to stop it.”
Hector looked at Lee then looked at me then he muttered, “Oh fuck.”
“It was Ally’s idea,” Lee told Hector.
“What was Ally’s idea?” Hector asked Lee.
“It was not Ally’s idea!” I cried.
“It wasn’t!” super-power-eared Ally yelled from the open back window of Lee’s Explorer. “It was Sadie’s idea. I just was offering moral support.”
“Shut up, Ally!” Indy shouted out the open passenger side window.
“I will not shut up! I’m not taking the fall for this one!” Ally shouted back.
I turned to the car, dislodging Lee’s arm and lifted both my hands and pressed down. “No one’s going to take a fall. Everyone calm down. It’s all okay. It’s rock ‘n’ roll!” I screamed.
“Righteous!” Ally screamed back.
“Rock on, sister!” Indy screamed too.
“It’s rock ‘n’ roll?” Lee asked, sounding as amused as he looked.
“You all wanna quit screamin’ at three o’clock in the mornin’ in my fuckin’ neighborhood?” Hector suggested.
Mm, well maybe we were being an eensy bit loud.
“Time for beddie by,” I announced (sounding like Ralphie), got up on tiptoe, kissed Lee’s cheek (like Ralphie and Buddy would do to me), turned and gave Indy and Ally a double devil’s horns (like Ava taught me) and shouted, “Rock on!” 
They shouted back in unison, “Rock on!”
“Christ,” Hector muttered.” 


I don't want to go into too much detail with this one, because everyone is going to react to it a different way. The basics of it are the same as the rest of the Rock Chick books, we know this. But the big ass moment that makes her make a decision? It's hard. It hurts. It breaks your damn heart and leaves you wondering when it will feel okay again.

I swear, it does. It just takes time.
I cried like a baby. True story. I don't know how I managed to read this without breaking down in a pile of snot and tears, or having to take a break every five minutes. I connected with Sadie. There was so much more detail, that it was impossible not to. So when the ending comes, and everythings fucking perfect for her? That is what made all the pain and suffering worth it. Sure, the funny moments and sweet times all added to it, they always do. But the bad times, they were what made this story for me.
